  Oral Surgery

  Certification in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery requires several additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Anderson manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions. Dr. Anderson has practiced a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to corrective jaw surgery. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort.

  Dental Implants

  Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Anderson is able to place single stage implants. These implants do not generally require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of four months of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. In most instances, the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures, and the length of time you must wait to complete the process. Dental implant placement is a team effort between an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. Dr. Anderson performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis (crown, bridge, etc.). Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.

  Wisdom Teeth Removal

  With an oral examination and x-rays of the mouth, Dr. Anderson and Dr. Johnson can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and predict if there are present or future potential problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient. Patients are generally first evaluated in the mid-teenage years by their dentist, orthodontist, or by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. All outpatient surgery is performed under appropriate anesthesia to maximize patient comfort. Our doctors are trained, licensed, and highly experienced in providing various types of anesthesia for patients.

  Bone Grafting

  Over a period of time, the jaw bone associated with missing teeth atrophies and is reabsorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for the placement of dental implants. In these situations, most patients are not candidates for the placement of dental implants without additional jaw preparation. With bone grafting we now have the opportunity to not only replace bone where it is missing, but we also have the ability to promote new bone growth in that location. This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and aesthetic appearance.
