Jon S. Woods, M.D. is a member of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care as an Associate Professor on the Clinical track. Dr. Woods attends on the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Primary Children’s Hospital. He also serves as the Pediatric Medical Director for LifeFlight. His clinical interests include transport of critically ill and injured children, care of pediatric trauma patients, blood transfusion protocols and care of critically ill children with congenital or acquired heart disease.Dr. Woods’ research interests include quality improvement in transport medicine, systemic inflammatory responses during infection and trauma, sedation, and blood product utilization/administration.Dr. Woods completed his undergraduate training at University of California, Davis, medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, residency training at Naval Medical Center San Diego and his fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah. In 2013, after 25 years, and after fulfilling a variety of clinical and leadership roles, including the Head of Clinical Operations at Naval Medical Center San Diego and Chairman of Pediatrics at Naval Medical Center San Diego, Dr. Woods retired from the US Navy. Before departing the Navy he served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan which included care for and transport of critically injured service members, enemy combatants, civilians and children. Dr. Woods is board certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
