Dr. Vikas Sharma is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Utah. While his clinical practice spans all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, he has a special interest in Minimally Invasive Robotic surgery, Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Arrhythmia Surgery, Dr. Sharma received his medical degree and cardiothoracic training in India. He then completed general surgery training at Wellspan York Hospital, York, PA and cardiothoracic surgery training at University of Utah. He has also received Advanced Cardiothoracic fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Dr. Sharma joined the faculty at the University of Utah in Oct 2017. Dr. Sharma serves as the Co director of Robotic Cardiac Surgery Program with focus of Valvular interventions. He is also surgical lead of the University of Utah arrhythmia surgery program with a focus on minimally invasive options for atrial fibrillation i.e. Convergence Procedure. He specializes in Adult Congenital Heart Disease with interest in complex preoperative interventions and Ross Procedure. He is also Co-director off the multi-disciplinary structural heart team including trans-catheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), Mitraclip, Triclip and Evoque Dr. Sharma is the value officer for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and has strong interest in Value Based Care and outcome research. He has published extensively and is involved in several industry driven trials.
